What comes first, science or science fiction?
It is an important question, because it is difficult to answer. Therefore, it is essential to have artists working within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) to make STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) , and increase the possibility for innovation to occur. The scientific method carries the burden of observation and repeatability. This is good, because it is then evidence based. Art on the other hand can terminate at the ineffable, and in some ways functions most efficaciously when pointing to mystery or imagined realities rather than claiming truths.
Together, art and science are beautiful. Contemplative science knows this too. It knows that much is worth trying to measure, and at some points, that measurement may be impossible. Yet the pursuit of understanding and contributing to the next turning is intact and functional.
